International Service encompasses the actions Rotarians take to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace. District 5330 clubs partner with Rotary clubs and districts overseas on Global Grant projects, vocational training teams, water and sanitation initiatives, maternal and child health, peace fellowships, and disaster response — and we keep our most enduring partnerships close to home, in Baja California.

Our District 5330 International Programs

Three long-standing programs anchor our international work — building homes south of the border, strengthening sister-club ties in Mexicali, and exchanging Rotarians with districts around the world.

Baja California

Corazón

Corazón partners with Rotary clubs across Southern California to build a complete home in a single day for a low-income family in Tijuana or Tecate. In its 35+ year history the nonprofit has built more than 1,500 homes and served over 7,000 participants in seven communities, alongside scholarships, job training, and youth programs. District 5330 clubs regularly join Corazón Superbuilds.

Sister-Club Partnership

Mexicali

Sparked by Past RI President Frank Devlyn, the Rotary Club of Palm Desert’s partnership with Rotary Club of Mexicali Oeste has grown into the annual Mexicali Weekend — 80 to 100 Rotarians from 15 to 20 clubs across four districts gather the first weekend of every year for service, fellowship, and joint projects supporting children’s charities like DESAYUNADOR Uredae.

Worldwide

Rotary Friendship Exchange

Rotary Friendship Exchange is an international program for Rotary members and friends to take turns hosting one another in their homes and clubs. Travel as an individual, a couple, a family, or a district team — for a few days or up to four weeks — and build the kind of personal cross-border friendships that have always been at the heart of Rotary.

Building homes across the border

Each year District 5330 clubs join Corazón Superbuilds in Baja California — raising a complete home for a low-income family in a single weekend of hands-on service.

Rotary’s Areas of Focus

Rotary International channels global service through seven causes — plus our long-standing commitment to ending polio. Global Grant projects led by District 5330 clubs align with these focus areas.

Promoting Peace

Foster understanding and interaction between people of different backgrounds and cultures through refugee support, conflict mediation training, and Rotary Peace Fellowships.

Fighting Disease

Expand healthcare access and disease prevention, building on Rotary’s polio eradication work to combat illnesses such as malaria, HIV, and tuberculosis.

Clean Water & Sanitation

Increase access to vital water, sanitation, and hygiene services — particularly in schools and healthcare facilities — so communities can grow and thrive.

Maternal & Child Health

Connect mothers and children to nutrition, healthcare, and sanitary resources, reducing child mortality and strengthening family wellbeing.

Supporting Education

Strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy through teacher training, scholarships, and foundational skill development.

Growing Local Economies

Use Rotarian expertise to expand economic and community development, especially for youth and women, through vocational training and microenterprise.

Protecting the Environment

Develop sustainable service projects and innovative solutions to strengthen ecosystems, conserve resources, and build environmental stability.

Ending Polio

For more than 45 years Rotary has led the global fight to eradicate polio. Wild poliovirus is now endemic in only two countries — Afghanistan and Pakistan — and the finish line is in sight.

Funding international projects

Most large international service projects in District 5330 are funded through The Rotary Foundation. Global Grants support sustainable, measurable projects of $30,000 or more in partnership with a Rotary club or district in the host country. District Grants can supplement short-term international service and support local efforts that often connect back to international partners.
