ABOUT THE CONTEST

Celebrating 50 years of speech-making

The Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest originated in 1976 under the guidance of Rotary District Governor George Petro of Yucca Valley, when our district was Rotary District 533. From that inspiring project, the contest was adopted by Rotary clubs around the world.

Each year, the theme centers on the Rotary Four-Way Test. The variety of speeches originates from the speakers’ own choices of topics — all of which must consider a decision-making issue in light of the Four-Way Test. There are no restrictions on the choice of topic, provided it is not profane, obscene, unpatriotic, or racist.

  • 50 years of successful speaking experiences for high school students.
  • 50 years of focus on the ethical standards of Rotarians around the world.
THE FOUR-WAY TEST

Of the things we think, say, or do:

  1. 1Is it the TRUTH?
  2. 2Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. 3Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. 4Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
