Brazil Vocational Training Team on Mental Health Awareness and Education
We are excited to introduce District 5330’s Vocational Training Team (VTT) for Brazil. The team is comprised of the following Rotarians:
● District Governor Judy Zulfiqar (Temecula), Team Captain
● Jennifer Loretta (Palm Desert), Team Co-Captain
● Carissa Gerry (Old Town Temecula), Team Secretary
● Glen Brock (Hemet)
● Dan Hudec (Yucaipa)
● Maryalice Owings (Palm Desert)
The team is receiving support and guidance from Past District Governor Ricardo “Taco” Loretta (Palm Desert) as the Team Coordinator, and from both Jackie Chatman (Desert Hot Springs) and Matthew Smith (Old Town Temecula) as Team Advisors. The team will also receive training from Past District Governor Jamie Zinn as Chair of the District 5330 Mental Health Awareness and Education Committee on facilitating the Resilience Training Program. The VTT trip is scheduled for November 29 – December 7, 2024.
The VTT project will focus on mental health awareness and education in Maringá, Brazil. The team aims to learn about the current initiatives the community has in place to address mental health issues and will work hand in hand with the District 5330 Mental Health Awareness and Education Committee to facilitate a productive idea exchange.
The VTT will offer training to the 15 Rotary clubs in Maringá, as well as to the greater Maringá community, on the newly developed District 5330 Resilience Training program. The Resilience Training program aims to increase mental health awareness and help youth ages 12 and up develop skills that will improve their resilience individually and in group settings. The Resilience Training Program will also provide additional resources to help youth learn more about the importance – and necessity – of resilience as a life skill.
Members of this VTT look forward to supporting the District 5330 Mental Health Awareness and Education Committee’s efforts to improve mental health and support services within our local and international communities. Please contact Team Secretary Carissa Gerry at [email protected] if you would like to invite this VTT to present at a future meeting for your Rotary club.
